Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Church. Their main purpose is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members. Its main concern is to intensify Catholic life, reclaiming fallen away Catholics and seeking converts. Legion of Mary has three levels of membership: Active members perform 2 hours of legionary work weekly, Auxiliary members support the work of the active members through the daily prayers of the rosary and the Legion Prayers (Tesserae), Junior Members may attend a junior meeting after they make their first Communion until 18 years of age. Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, prison ministry, visitation of the sick or aged, crowd contact, religious education, visiting the newly baptized, Pilgrim Virgin Statue rotations, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish.
The Legion of Mary Ministry welcomes all to pray the Rosary every day, evangelize and serve others by visiting, offering Bible studies or child care, offering transportation to Mass, doctors appointments, grocery shopping, offering religious education or ministering to the sick. The ministry will train those wishing to be a part of their ministry. All work is done under the supervision and guidance of a priest spiritual director appointed by the Pastor. Appropriate diocesan training is required.
