Catholic Young Adult Ministry is a Christ Centered Ministry whose mission is to empower young adults, aged 18-39, married or single, with or without children to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our community and world today.
CORE PURPOSE: Holy Family Young Adult Ministry seeks to
† connect young adults to the faith community and to their peers.
† build relationships that offer pastoral care and support.
† provide catechetical and spiritual opportunites.
† advocate for their full integration into the life and mission of the Church.
YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY
Who are young adults? “Young adulthood refers to people in their late teens, twenties, and thirties; single, married, divorced, or widowed; and with or without children. They are present in every trade and profession. They live in many communities that make up our society – from rural areas to small towns to large metropolitan areas. They come from diverse cultural, ethnic, educational, vocational, social, political, and spiritual realities. This diversity is reflected in the large number of people from various nations coming to this country whose median age is in the early to mid-twenties. Young adults undertake numerous developmental tasks as they continue to grow and mature. Many first experience autonomy and discover new roles in family, work, society, and the Church as they begin college, their first job, or marriage. Today many young adults spend longer periods in transition. Marriage is delayed; children come later in life; geographic and job mobility is high; and second and third careers are common. Some find themselves single again through separation, divorce, or the death of a spouse. Some may find themselves raising children alone. When we consider all these factors, it is easy to understand why many young adults believe that life today is different.”
Young Adult Ministry…
† Fosters the growth and education of young adults toward a relationship with Jesus Christ.
† Makes contact with young adults and welcomes them to participate in the life and mission of the Church.
† Invites young adults to embrace the mission of Christ in building of the kingdom of God in the world today.
† Nurtures and strengthens their faith. While ministry with young adults takes place in many different communities, the parish should be the primary location.
Pastoral care for young adults requires that parishes be a home for them where their personal faith journey is nourished. Ministry with young adults may be done in groups of any size; small, large or individual. Young adult ministry needs to connect with young adults in their neighborhoods, on campus, in the workplace and at Mass.
