The Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers and Greeters) lead the welcome to Holy Family for all who come to the celebration of Mass and special liturgies or specific events (Parish Mission, Retreats, Living Stations of the Cross, etc.). These fully initiated (i.e. have received the sacrament of Confirmation), fully registered parishioners, adult and youth (15 and older) help to set a tone of warmth and welcome to all who enter Holy Family Parish.
Ushers welcome all who are coming into the church. They also assist with preparing the worship space, guiding processions during the Mass and other liturgies, seating parishioners and securing the collection and safety of parishioners and the Eucharist. They also may assist those who may have car troubles.
Greeters are administered by the Dynamic Catholic ministry. They staff the Welcome Desk on weekends and weekdays. Surrounding the Masses, they also greet parishioners in the narthex coming into and leaving the Mass.
Ushers and Greeters usually serve one hour per week (weekday Greeters may serve 2-3 hours at a time) and make themselves available for one or more Events or Special Masses per year. As part of a team effort, prospective Ministers of Hospitality receive on-the-job training to ensure a feeling of comfort in greeting, organizing, and relevant “people skills.”
Requirements to join the ministry:
- Must be fully-initiated Catholics (i.e.: have received all sacraments of initiation (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation).
- Undergo the diocese’s Safe Environment and Fingerprinting protocol (which limits the age you can do so). Contact Lynn Ramsey in the parish office for instructions for doing so.
To join, speak to any Usher or Greeter about information and sign-up forms. If you are a people person, and like to share your smile to make others feel welcome, this is the ministry for you!
