The Ministers of Hospitality (Ushers and Greeters) welcome all who come to Holy Family to celebration Mass and special liturgies or specific events (Parish Mission, Retreats, Living Stations of the Cross, etc.). Hospitality ministers must be fully-initiated Catholics, having received all sacraments of initiation (baptism, first Eucharist, and confirmation), and be at least 15 years old..

In addition to welcoming all entering our church, Ushers assist with preparing the worship space, guiding processions during the Mass and other liturgies, seating parishioners and securing the collection and safety of parishioners and the Eucharist.

Greeters are administered by the Dynamic Catholic ministry. They staff the Welcome Desk on weekends and weekdays. Surrounding the Masses, they also greet parishioners in the narthex coming into and leaving the Mass.

Ushers and Greeters usually serve one hour per week (weekday Greeters may serve 2-3 hours at a time) and make themselves available for one or more Events or Special Masses per year. As part of a team effort, prospective Ministers of Hospitality receive on-the-job training to ensure a feeling of comfort in greeting, organizing, and relevant “people skills.”

The first step in becoming a hospitality minister is to undergo the diocese’s Safe Environment and Fingerprinting protocol. To find out more about how to complete this step, click here.

To join, speak to any Usher or Greeter about information and sign-up forms. If you are a people person, and like to share your smile to make others feel welcome, this is the ministry for you!
