Lectio Evangelization

Join Deacon Larry Brockman in a

10-session study of the Acts of the Apostles

Tuesday mornings–Online

10:30 to noon, from May 11 to July 13.

The Church has been spreading the Gospel for 2000 years, but people in our modern world seem to have closed their ears and hearts to the good news of Jesus Christ.  The “signs of the times” show us a world that is in desperate need of the gospel, and yet a “New Evangelization” appears at times to face insurmountable difficulties.  How can the Church go about evangelizing effectively in the modern world?  Dr. Mary Healy of Augustine Institute suggests that we should step back and look at how the world was originally evangelized as a roadmap to a New Evangelization.  She points out that the Book of Acts chronicles how the Apostles were commissioned and sent out by Jesus to do just that- evangelize the whole world.  As she walks us through Acts in 10 sessions, she uses the examples given in Acts to open our minds and hearts to the greatest challenge in our times- re-evangelizing the Western World- by studying and analyzing the success of the first Apostles including Peter and Paul.

Learn how we too can use the power of the Sacraments, the role of charisms for building up the Body of Christ, techniques from St. Paul for reaching a secular culture, and more.

Using the Lectio Divina approach of reading, reflecting, responding, and contemplating, the accompanying workbook presents classic artistry, penetrating questions, and personal reflection to take the teachings to a deeper level.

Each session will be conducted using Zoom.  Each participant will need the workbook, available for just $10.  Using the parish-wide Formed Membership, all participants will have free access to the weekly films presented by Dr. Healy on their own computer, laptop or smart phone.  The class time will be spent going over the homework for each week, and the questions and answers in the study guide for the current session.

Deacon Larry Brockman has been conducting such studies for over 10 years, including 3 recent studies using the Zoom format.  Come join us this important message for the modern world.

Genesis Bible Study

Join Deacon Larry Brockman for study of the Book of Genesis

on Thursday Evenings–Online

at 7 PM

Without Genesis, the rest of the Bible is incomprehensible. Unveiling no less than the creation of the world and everything in it, including human life, as well as the birth of sin and the promise of a Savior, Genesis is packed with fascinating images and layered theological insights that require careful study.

In this powerful 28-session study from Catholic Scripture Study International, author Steve Ray augmented by self-study videos by Fr. Kauth will help you uncover what you need to know about this crucial first book of the Bible, including:

  • The theological significance of covenants: what they meant for the ancient Jews, and what they mean for us today
  • What the Binding of Isaac actually signifies and what Noah’s ark represents
  • How to have a personal relationship with the “God of your fathers” (Exodus 3:15)

Genesis is the first key to unlocking the chest that enables us to understand the Bible as the Universal Church always has. To find the priceless gems inside, we need a good roadmap to learn how the 50 chapters fit together and fit with the rest of the entire Bible.

Deacon Larry will break the study into three time groups of 9 or 10 consecutive sessions with breaks in between. The first time period is from May 6th through July 1; the second from August 5 through October 7, and the third from November 4 through January 27 (with Thanksgiving and Christmas Breaks).

Each session will be conducted using Zoom.  Participants will need a study guide (approximately $45 and available from Deacon Larry) and will be given information on how to stream the videos without extra charge.  Participants will prepare each lesson ahead of time and the sessions will concentrate on group discussion, questions and answers, and on connection of the Book of Genesis to the Catholic Catechisms.

Deacon Larry Brockman has been conducting such studies for over 10 years, including 3 recent studies using the Zoom format.  Come join us for one or all of the three time periods.
