From July 16, 2020 – Lay Carmelite Professsion
The Lay Carmelite Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel is a vocation of lay people who, in response to a call from God, promise to live the Gospel in the spirit and guidance of the Carmelite Order. The Lay Carmelites are Third Order members under the jurisdiction of the Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary in Darien, Illinois as delegated by the Prior General of the Order. The focus of the community is to provide support and formation in Carmelite spirituality and share the contemplative way of prayer.
Lay Carmelites are open to Catholics in good standing 18 to 70. However, becoming a Lay Carmelite requires discernment and a particular calling. Carmelites are required to undergo a formal formation that leads to reception and then profession. The process takes approximately 6 years.
